Who Owns The Greek Debt Anyway? A List of Banks and Institutions

Sorry I couldn't make the charts bigger, but if you click on them they will get big enough to see. Sent to us from Shaza via The Disciplined Investor Blog.

October 18, 2011 9:45 am
Bloomberg has scrubbed through statements and reports to put together some of the top holders of Greek debt. If you were wondering who are the parties at most risk, here you have it.
This may not be the total parties that hold the debt as there are countries as well as private investors that are hanging on to a piece of this pie as well.

A Greek Run on Banks – Charting the Flows

May 21, 2012 1:10 pm
There has been a consistent level of money leaving Greek banks for the past several months. But, last week saw a real surge in the withdrawals as the panic levels are rising since the government is in shambles.
With all of the jawboning over the last 18 months, did the EU countries (Germany and France) ever really expect to get paid back the billions of Euros they lent to Greece?
Let’s get real – there is no math that has been discovered up to this point that can balance this equation. Too much debt, too little income – austerity… Who are they kidding?

Greek President Karolos Papoulias told the country’s political leaders that bank withdrawals plus buy orders received by Greek banks for German bunds totaled some €800 million on Monday, a transcript of his comments said. A central bank official confirmed the figures.
“The strength of banks is very weak right now,” Mr. Papoulias said, citing a conversation he had with Greek central-bank Gov. George Provopoulos.
Monday’s deposit withdrawal far outpaced Greek banks’ steady decline in deposits since the start of the country’s debt crisis in 2009, as depositors withdraw cash and transfer funds overseas. In the past two years, deposit outflows have generally averaged between €2 billion and €3 billion a month, though in January they topped €5 billion.
Where is the money going? Obviously to the “strong” countries. In the EU, that would be Germany.

Boom to cause space squeeze
Queensland's booming resources and finance sector is set to cause a shortfall in Brisbane office accommodation, a major developer said today.
Leighton Properties state manager Brian McGuckin told reporters there was "unprecedented demand" for office space in Brisbane as he toured the top level of the company's new CBD building, King George Central.
"We really need more properties like this to get up and to get up quickly to satisfy that demand," he said.

Housing a worry but economy booming, says OECD

REAL estate prices are under threat from the high dollar along with confidence and jobs but the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development says Australia is set to grow at just about the fastest pace in the developed world for decades to come.

The OECD Economic Outlook, released last night in Paris, puts Australia near the top of the tree for economic growth during 2012, behind only South Korea, Mexico and Chile. While Australia's economy is set to grow at 3.1 per cent this year, close to the budget forecast, the US should grow at 2.4 per cent, Britain 0.5 per cent and Italy and Greece should slide further into recession.
The report credits the mining boom for keeping Australia ahead of the pack but says consumer caution and the ''persistently high exchange rate'' are holding back other parts of the economy.

Hi all. Hope everyone is doing OK. Enjoy the Summer while you can.

Great rants from cl there - tell us what you really think!

And thanks to Mammoth and edgar and Queen for some great comments too.

Me, I'm working long hours. Yawn, boring - and tiring. But it does pay the bills.

Nicholas Darvas menti9oned shorting FB - that was not even possible until today, maybe, there were no shares to borrow, from what I read.

Probably counts as the worst IPO in hostory, and deservedly so - company is trading at about 75 times earnings (or was), which is ridiculous comparted to other proven businesses tradubg at 1/5 of that ratio.

THey are even calling it 'FacePlant' on the MSM radio now. LOL.

Mammoth said...

Greetings GAW.
Face-Plant, that is a good one!

The term, 'FB' used to refer to the Fvcked Buyer who overpaid for a house that he/she would never be able to flip for a profit.

Once again, what is old becomes new again!

Hello from Schipol Airport in Amsterdam, Hivers. I should be on a plane headed for Toronto at this moment. But thanks to the looming financial police state, I am stuck here. (Stuck in the first-class lounge, with free food, hard liquor and Internet access, so it could be worse ; )

We had some tight connections from Zurich to A'dam to Canada, but we were hitting them just great. Got to the Canada flight with 10 minutes to spare. I took off my belt, the one that has a large capacity to carry "candy bars." I had only half the number of Swiss chocolates I toted through here in times past. But this smaller number caused a freak-out, with me being held up by gate security until Customs came. Which took just long enough to make us miss the plane. Mrs. Bukko was already on board, as were our bags. She was wifely enough to get off and not leave me alone in Holland.

In the end, there were 5 officers around me. Polite, speaking good English, no hostility. I had documentation to prove what came from where. I was cleared to fly on, of course, because I am not doing anything illegal. At least, it's not illegal yet. No capital controls at borders. Yet.

But the clampdown is getting tighter. I have seen some ominous things on this trip, such as our entire train having to get off at Chiasso on the Swiss/Italian border, and parade past a row of drug-sniffing dogs and financial police. I will rant on about the police state later. Gotta go. Good news that we were re-scheduled on a flight DIRECTLY to Vancouver, business class, woo-hoo! Got caught in the shit hitting the fan, came out smelling like roses. Let's see how it goes on the Canuck side, eh?

chicken little said...

okay, when it gets to the point the government is worrying about who is carrying CHOCOLATE then you know they are serious!

I have 'lost' it so much that when Bloomberg put up an article about Government controlling Fat I sent off my latest blog back to them. That means everyone in the entire world will know who I am.

I no longer care.

They want people to play sports--but not get hurt. They want people to buy into the market--but not lose money. They want children to not get bullied--but think only the way they have brainwashed them.

IF 'to everything there is a season', then IMO the season we are seeing is frustration but don't worry. The tides inch in but eventually the waves will take back the sand...

(And, when they get a pre-menopausal in the midst of PMS who has been up all night with a teething baby then let's see them try to rip that chocolate bar out of HER hand.

WE don't get viagra coverage. WE have to pay..which is part of the reason we no longer have sex. How do you like for honesty? We've struggled for years from the repercussions of 'simple' hernia surgery. Don't ask me to believe doctors or drug companies. I don't. I won't. And many of the guys in hubby's PTSD all struggle with erectile disfunction. What does that say? And, NO, the government does not cover them for viagra or anything else. They just pass out the drugs to try to keep them happy.

Sorry, I'm so witchy but my bleeding heart has stopped bleeding. The guy who did our handyman work got put in the hospital with high BP...high like 210/145 high. He has NO medical insurance. He's working his butt off. He's worried because the meds are making him tired and a bit dopey and he has to climb a ladder.

I don't have all the answers folks, but I sure have questions. As I said before life is not always fair. Bad things happen to good people. It is what it is. You pick yourself up and begin a new day and try to make it a better one. You cry on your friend's shoulder and let them cry on yours. You share what you have when you can. You look for the beauty, the silence, and the laughter wherever you can. Then you close your eyes and hope that somehow you've made a difference to someone. That's about all you can do.

gaw said...

Life is definitely not fair. It just is - the sun rises in the east, and what you make of the day is your own choice.

Many react to what happens, others create their own happenings.

What I mean is, for all the MSM noise and those who tell you what you "should" do, you can ignore them and choose your own path.

I've never cared what others think of me, and still don't. Do what you know in your heart is right, and you will be on the right track.

words to live by, from cl: "You share what you have when you can. You look for the beauty, the silence, and the laughter wherever you can."

Australia's dependence on resource exports could come back to bite it as a slowdown in Chinese growth causes commodity prices to fall, the World Bank warns.

CL -- when I say "chocolate bars," I do not mean LITERAL chocolate bars. This is the Internet, and when speaking about some things, it is best not to blurt stuff out openly. Swiss chocolate still flows past borders unchecked. We brought back batches from, our favourite chocolate store in Zurich. I'm using allusions to fool any prying eyes who don't know what I refer to on the Queen's blog from time to time. For all anyone knows, I could be talking about drugs! BTW. at out favourite chocolate shop in Amsterdam, they sell boxes of small pillow-shaped dark-chocolate candies that look EXACTLY like small wads of an Afghan export product which can be bought at our favourite coffee shop across the canal from it. After the Afghan stuff has been carefully warmed and shaped, of course. Those got home with no scrutiny. Chocolates, of course.

Queenbee said...

I am with you GAW and CL you have said many time before in different words when life hands you lemons you make lemonade.

Doctor visit didn't go well. He wasted our money with an xray of her hip and I don't know why she is in pain. They want to cut off pain meds altogether.

Oh well we will overcome and I will hold her until to over the counter meds take it down to manageable levels.

Funny how little things can cause big issues.

The PM metal; arket spin round and round and the sun came up this morning. Interesting view from the bridge today. I see happy people, sad people, angry people, rich people and some fish. LOL. I told you life is really hilarious bordering on the absurd.
