Happy Thanksgiving to all

I thought about what I would put up for Thanksgiving. Then I decided to go with what really matters.  This is a day for the markets to rest. Thanksgiving should be about spending time with the family, eating a lot of good food and FOOTBALL!! I will be most happy if the Green Bay Packers defeat the Detroit Lions. Thank you all for being a part of my family Inside the Hive. Go Packers!!!

checking back in to wish all a Happy Thanksgiving. Much like the infamous Queen's Christmas speech, 2011 has not been a year I'd remember fondly...until I remember that despite our government's problems I am still very blessed. I have shelter. I do not go to bed hungry. I am given medical care when I need it (for the most part). I am considerably safer than many in the world. Despite the out-and-out thievery of bankers and officials, I am surrounded by fellow citizens of all races, political persuasions, and colors who are decent, honest, caring people. I am fortunate enough (IF I WANT TO) to dwell on the positive aspects of society and see people who have little give to others. I am blessed to see the sun rise each morning. I am doubly blessed to hear children at play. My grandkids are educated and not sold into slavery or forced to work for pennies in order to survive. I am thankful for the wisdom I learned at the feet of my elders. I am thankful for the wisdom I have gained by the exchange of different ideas in life, finances, health, etc. in places like THE HIVE.

Yes, I have much to be THANKFUL for today--and none of it is available to be bought at midnight tonight. It all comes from the transformation from within of seeing what is really important!

Happy Thanksgiving to all at THE HIVE!

Happy Thanksgiving Day to all American readers!

Though, as a Canadian, who have our T-Day in late October, it seems Americans have Thanksgiving far too close to Christmas. Two major long weekend holidays should be farther apart than that.

But I guess in the southern US it still seems like earlier in Fall. It makes sense in the traditional definition of Thanksgiving Day which was a celebration after the harvests are completed for the year.

Never mind, enjoy your turkey and football.

I had internet issues, which seem to be fixed now. The SIM card in my 3G+ modem had gone flaky, causing the modem to think there was "No SIM Card Inserted!" and drop connection.

Very intermittent, and annoying, I was wondering why my connection would suddenly drop half way through loading a page, then come back later and work fine.

A trip to the local storefront of my ISP to get a replacement SIM card solved the issue, no charge. Though it's odd they had no device there in the store to test my modem with "I can't modify the company network!" - like plugging in the ethernet cable to my modem for a minute to test it? - nah, that just can't be done! You'd think they worked for the Goverment or something.

Typical hard to figure issue, only happens once in a while, and never while you are trying to figure out what's wrong.

Murphy's Law, that iron clad rule, in action.

The EUro zone continues to crumble, one insolvent nation at a time. Germany is staggering under the load of carrying all the rest of EUrocRatia on their backs. Contagion has firmly reached the core, and it is viral.

Against that background, no doubt EUrocRatians were pleased to see the Irish back for some debt relief, as I had earlier speculated they would. And why not, what's good for Greece is good for Ireland (and Portugal, and Italy, and Spain, and....

Portugal was downgraded to junky junk status, and the betting is now whether Austria or Belgium or France is next...just declare them all ZZZ, and get it over with.

It's not like they will ever be repaying those mountains of debt anyway. Default now, and get it over with, Iceland did it, and is back in debt markets now, as without the debt millstone around their necks, they are credit worthy again.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/financialcrisis/8911146/Ireland-demands-debt-relief-warns-on-EU-treaties.html

"Ireland demands debt relief, warns on EU treaties
Europe's plans for treaty changes to enforce fiscal discipline in the eurozone may fall foul of popular anger in Ireland unless the EU creditor states agree to share more of the pain.

The Irish government has suddenly complicated the picture by requesting debt relief from as a reward for upholding the integrity of the EU financial system after the Lehman crisis, though there is no explicit linkage between the two issues.

"We carried an undue burden for protecting the European banking system from contagion," said finance minister Michael Noonan."

Shore and begorrah!

There was some faint hopiness that CONfidence could be restored in EUrocRatia today, as the 3 Stooges, err, Sarkozy, Merkel and Monti, had a press conference. Where it was hopinessed that they would announce some sort of "EUroBond", as France is so desperate for.

Alas, Frau Merkel dashed all hope of a "EUroBond" ("Save France Bond!") when she repeated, for the hard of thinking French and Belgians etc, that "she stands firmly against joint Euro-bonds."

Every rumor of a "EUro joint debt solution" aka "'Mo Money Printin'!" comes out of Paris or Brussels, or London from some desperate Bankster, and then is denied by Berlin.

Nein, nein, nein, and that means nein!

Belgium moving up fast on the outside in the Collapse Stakes:

Dexia, the Big Bank that needs a Big Failout, is apparently too big for Belgium to swallow now. They want to "renegotiate" the Bailout...LOL... can we get a mulligan, and a 'do over' on that one? Please?

ZH: "Belgium Hits Record High Yields As Business Confidence Slumps"

"Belgium just can't get a break. While its simultaneously arguing with France and Luxembourg over Dexia's bailout burden and suffering under a total lack of government, Merkel's unequivocal comments on Euro-bonds did nothing to save the ailing nation. Then business confidence prints worse than expected continuing its worse slide since 1993. Not only are Belgian government yields at record highs but so is the spread to German Bunds (at 350bps!) and French OATs as Dexia's credit also cracks to record wides."

I'd say they should drown their sorrows with some Belgian beer, if it wasn't so heavy you can barely finish one.

Blame it on the Germans, Germans, Germans (sung to the tune of Millit Vannilli "Blame It On The Rain", oddly enough a German band of lip-syncers)-

ZH: "Risk Tumbles In Retaliation For Merkel Stubbornness"

"From the moment the words left Merkel's lips this morning that 'conditions weren't right' for euro-bonds and would send 'completely wrong signal', risk assets started to crack lower. Both ES and European markets are now well below yesterday's lows as EURUSD also turns red and sovereign spreads start to break wider (and bear flatten) again."

I have read O-hopiness has phoned Merkel several times urging her strongly to hurry up and bail out the Banksters before any bonuses are in danger.

You have to have priorities. Right now, most of the "elites" and "financial sector" are fixed on getting Germany to bail them out, ASAP. Real solutions to the issues, not so much.

Yes it is all the German's fault. Let's have a war. Sorry I couldn't resist. From the Beatles this is for Europe not Thanksgiving.

"Have you seen the little piggies
Crawling in the dirt
And for all the little piggies
Life is getting worse
Always having dirt to play around in.

Have you seen the bigger piggies
In their starched white shirts
You will find the bigger piggies
Stirring up the dirt
Always have clean shirts to play around in.

In their sties with all their backing
They don't care what goes on around
In their eyes there's something lacking
What they need's a damn good whacking.

Everywhere there's lots of piggies
Living piggy lives
You can see them out for dinner
With their piggy wives
Clutching forks and knives to eat their bacon."

is sounding rather uber-Bearish these days:

"Happy Thanksgiving — the Dow could be going to 4,000"

Using a loong term chart, then a very looooong term chart, 1900 - 2012, things are looking kind of ursine for stocks. And by implication, commodities...

His speculative outcomes based on respected chart patterns are about what would be expected in a Depression. Lines up well with Kondratiev Wave theories and Bob Bronson's cycles work.

The good news is, as always, this crisis should be about over by 2018. The bad news is...same as the good news.

Those Beatles, so politically incorrect. Imagine if they put that song out today, the outrage!

The optics on the whole "Germany must relent or we're dooooooomed!" are wrong to start with.

Too much debt can't be cured with more debt. The PIIGS wouldn't be in any problems if they had not run massive Budget deficits for decades, would they? I think not.

Despite the trade imbalances issue with Germany, etc, which are serious structural flaws in the EUro zone edifice.

The other big issue the PIIGS have is the EUro is still too highly valued vs other currencies to do anything for their economies. Standard practice would be to devalue a nations currency to promote competitiveness and stimulate export sales, which they can't do now, being stuck in the Euro with Germany.

If only... they hadn't entered the Euro, and better managed their Budgets, there would be no "EUro zone crisis" now...

Queenbee, did the 'Silver Doctor' blog fall off the list on the LH side of the page?

Queenbee said...

Mammoth I made a comment on Turk's call for 11k dollars and was ridiculed by an anon for no reason. Nothing substantive just insults. Others came in with comments later that made sense so I will add it back on and chalk it up to just one idiot.

Happy Turkey Day...although I am almost in time for the leftovers rather than the feast!

Here is a Mary Oliver Poem for you QB...this is thanksgiving advice from Mary;s little dog Percy:

"I Ask Percy How I Should Live My Life

Love, love, love, says Percy.

And hurry as fast as you can

along the shining beach, or the rubble, or the dust.

Then, go to sleep.

Give up your body heat, your beating heart.

Then, trust."

Shaza thank you for a beautiful poem.

Clean water comes out of the tap.

Light appears when I flip the switch.

Warm air blows from the vents in the floor.

My lungs work well enough to inhale that air.

My heart beats.

For these things, I am thankful.

Green Bay 27 Detroit 15 one down and two to go. I only put 25.00 on GB. Should have bet at least 100.00, but I am a small time gambler and 25.00 is a big bet for me.

Dallas wins by just one point and Miami was +7 so I win again. Two down and one to go for a perfect day.
