Future of the US and Europe with Nigel Farage and Lew Rockwell on Capital Account (11/15/11)

Boeing get its largest order ever in its 94 year history! Raise your hand if you know anything about Indonesia...

THe Boeing order in Indonesia is important because Indonesia is another sleeping giant. With a population of 239,870,940 it is HUGE and it is the world's largest Muslim population.
As a pilot and airline owner friend of mine said: " Watch Asia boom. We ain't seen nothing yet! Indonesia is another sleeping giant who is awakening..."  Shaza

Lion who? What record Boeing-Indonesia deal means

Hong Kong (CNN) -- The largest single aviation purchase in Boeing's 94-year history was pulled off today by Lion Air.

Lion who?

If you have never heard of Lion Air, you're not alone. Unless you speak Bahasa Indonesia and have traveled around the vast array of islands that make up the world's most populous Muslim nation, there is no reason why you should have.

With U.S. President Barack Obama watching on the sidelines of the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) economic summit in Bali, Lion Air signed a deal for 230 Boeing planes totaling $21.7 billion, with the first delivery in 2017 -- part of the airline's plan to buy 408 new planes at $37.7 billion, Lion Air CEO Rusdy Kirana told CNN.

"From east to west, Indonesia spans 5,000 miles and we have 230 million (people) and not enough aircraft to meet the growth of the number of passengers," Kirana said.

The article does not even state which Boeing airliners Indonesia is purchasing. Another example of reporting at it’s very finest!
(All 230 airplanes will be Boeing 737’s)

"For the last several days, I've been talking about how we have to make sure that we've got a presence in this region, that it can result directly in jobs at home," Obama said in a statement. "And what we see here -- a multibillion-dollar deal between Lion Air -- and Boeing is going to result in over 100,000 jobs back in the United States of America, over a long period of time."

Hey Mr. Clueless President, do you have any idea what percentage of this airplane’s components are built outside the US?

OWS and its ilk are showing O'bama to be the same as George Bush. When Katrina hit Bush was MIA. Now OWS is getting spitefule 84 year old women getting pepper sprayed on her by Portland Police. I mean come on. There's a reason an 84 year old women is protesting. Where is our commander in chief? Doing an Asian road trip!

The CinC is worried about China, according to media reports here.

"Obama has announced many initiatives this week that are intended to contain expansionistic China"

Typical Washington, really. Obama is trying to cater to the right wingers (as if they would vote for him anyway) and distract from domestic issues ("It's the economy, stupid!"), by not looking too weak on Defense and Foreigh Policy.

He's acting like a guy who doesn't want to be re-elected really, but for the Republican candidates looking so useless, which I guess he thinks gives him some breathing room.

Hint for O'man: your country is in deep structural economic difficulties at home, that will take bold intitiatives, time, and resolute action to overcome... which so far, you have done diddly squat about. Stop trying to look good overseas, and DO SOMETHING, you useless twit.

Americans are always so worried about "terrorists", which has been redefined as "anyone opposed to America" these days.

Well, if you want to see terrorists, just look at the local police force, who are fully prepared to terrorize their citizenry on behalf of the elites and the Banksters.

Maybe the USA should stop lecturing other countries about "human rights" when they don't practice what is preached at home. Local police should move to North Korea or Syria, where they would be a beter fit with the system of Government.

Mammoth - so, what % of the typical Boeing plane is made in the USA? Do you know? Just wondering.

Here in my area we have a Honda plant, which is said to use the "highest % of North American made parts" in the automotive industry. Them and Toyota are said to use more locally made parts than the "Big 3" "domnestic car companies", who now get most of their parts from Mexico and China. GM and Chrysler assemble many models in Mexico, etc.

But even Honda can be paralyzed by 1 suppler in Thailand getting flooed out, leaving shortages of "vital electronic parts" they say. Both T & H got severely impacted by the Japan quake too.

It's all part of our shiny "Just in time" world, where every part is supposed to arrive for assembly hours before it is needed, so they don't have to stock anything on site.

Save some money on warehousing, lose a lot on cancelled production due to parts shortages - the "global supply chain" is woven out of Chinese cloth, easily torn. JIT is the logistics mantra, there is no other. One of those theoretical concepts that sounds good, on paper.

mugabe - I am reading a lot about Spain this week, and how bad the real estate situation is there.

They say you can buy a house in some sea side resort areas for "70% off" and many proerties are "unesllable".

I suspect after the coming election, things will go badly for Spain, as the extent of the losses not disclosed will be outed by the new Government, if they are smart - air all the dirty laundry, blame the "other guys".

Which will lead to sever upheaval in the Ppanish Banking system, as most should probably be closed down immediately, at least the local ones.

Which makes it hard for people, who have to wonder if their Bank will still be there next month.

What do the people you meet think about all this? The younger people must be pissed, with ~45% unemployment - recipe for revolution, traditionally.

Bruce Krasting has a good point about 'Capital Flight' in his Blog post there, linky on left. Great Blog, very common sense analysis.

Grreece attempting to get back funds from Switzerland is a warning shot, could lead to general capital flight.

Of course, where do you flee to? Don't see too many "safe havens" that are actually safe, these days. Banks? Bonds? Which counry? Yikes.

Gold, physical, buried in the backyard, maybe. As long as no one knows you have it there, like the Government, who might arrest you for "concealing assets", down the road, when they get really desperate for tax money.

GAW,

The level of analysis here is pretty low. There is a general feeling that 'we're screwed' as unemployment hits 5 million and youth unemployment is 45%. Blame is apportioned fairly equally to the socialist party and the bankers but, of course, the same people who are casting the blame now were quite happy to live off the hog during the boom times.

of course, NO ONE wants to give up any privileges: pensioners, people on unemployment benefit, civil servants. Sound familiar?

It's gonna be nteresting to see what the new govt does about the banks. They say that they are not going to buy the assets and create a bank, so what ARE they gonig to do?

You are dead right when you say:

I suspect after the coming election, things will go badly for Spain, as the extent of the losses not disclosed will be outed by the new Government, if they are smart - air all the dirty laundry, blame the "other guys".

They have already done this in the recent regional elections where they won almost everywhere- conveniently forgetting, of courrse, theat they themsleves were very profiligate in important areas where they already held power, e.g., Valencia

Re property, it's cratering in certain coastal areas and, say, the less desirable areas of madrid. desirables areas of madrid, however, are only off about 10% since the peak according to asking prices, but I imagine according to real closure prices they're off more like 20%- and I repeat, these are the desirable areas.

I'm actually thinknig i might snap up a coastal property somewhere. No hurry at all to do this, though. propoerty will nott be gonig up any time soon.

Funnily enough, the only CD I've got in a Spanish bank expires in january and I've been wondering whether to put it into something like German or Danish bonds -basically 0% interest- or to re-invest in a new CD for a juicy 4 to 5%. I think I'll probably put that into bonds for a year or so, too, as we seem to be near crsis points. However, if I do that, I'll be earning almost nothing on the considerable amount of savings I have. Not quite sure what to do as three-quaters of my money that would usually be in CDs is already in bonds.

Funny cartoon, but right on point:

Camp in a park, get pepper sprayed and arrested. Defraud Billion$ and cause a global Depression: nothing.

"If only they enforced bank regulations like they do [Zuccotti] park rules, we wouldn’t be in this mess."

Yep.
