Deflation is spreading from the core of the global system to the most unexpected regions of the world. It has even reached Latin America. Prices are sliding in Peru, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Bolivia, Ecuador, Guatemala, and El Salvador, to the consternation of everybody.
Enough of the world has already fallen so far into pre-deflation conditions that any misjudgement by the big central banks from now risks setting off a chain-reaction that may prove very hard to stop.
CPI inflation has dropped to –2.2pc in Japan (a modern record), -2.1pc in the US, -1.8pc in China, -1.4pc in Spain, -0.7pc in France, and -0.6pc in Germany.
This was not anticipated by the authorities anywhere, so we should be wary of their assurances now that we face nothing more than a brief dip in prices before rising energy costs bring inflation back into familiar and safe territory. No doubt prices will rebound as the "base effect" of oil prices kicks in. But by how much; for how long?

Another article basically taking the line that markets are voervalued.

The pig men have fouled the system up so badly that now there is no stigma whatsoever associated with not paying bank loans back, in fact, it's encouraged. I think it's funny.
Walayat still bullish, depsite some bearish weekly MACD divergence. Always a good read, as he doesn't get bogged down on one's day's action but looks at trends:

Thanks for the kind words. A tragedy that has shattered several families that did not have to happen.
"a PC just for trading?" ???? - well, I just like to build PC's, had half the parts sitting around anyway. It's partly a hobby thing, I build PC's for a few friends too. You can't buy a PC like this off the shelf, I use all top name component manufacturers, most with lifetime warranty.
I have 6 PC's here, 1 new gaming rig, my previous gaming PC, 2 older gaming PC's which now make excellent office/business machines, my old business related PC which is a bit tired now, and the new one. Only 2 of these access the internet most times.
Security is the main reason. I want to have a reliable dedicated PC that is solely dedicated to trading, that is locked down tight, running Linux as the primary OS. It will be dual-boot with Windows XP, since I have the CD for it sitting around unused, but that is just in case I run into Windows software that won't run smoothly under WINE.
This PC has multiple hard-drives, so I can make primary drive images (WD 74 GB Raptor)to other drives for backup on a daily basis. Easier and faster to restore than a RAID array - I have spare hard drives on hand, if one fails I can slap a new one in and restore the image and be back running in an hour or less. Not that the Raptors fail often, in fact I have never had one die yet, and I have been running them for many years now.
I am just trying to minimize the possible down-time, so if I want to make a trade I won't be prevented by hardware failure. Been there and bought the t-shirt.
Hi GAW and others. I am getting ct scan and neck x-rays as just not getting better. Doctor had his usual stoic bedside manner. A grump.
I think the headache and nausea drove me to seek additional treatment. Just sitting here in the waiting room bored waiting for my name to be called.
Gaw I'll bet you lost a lot of people with the tech talk, but it is cool to know some who understands the inner workings.
I thought the Raptors were a football team. Or have I got the wrong sport?
QB: Good luck with the scans!
All this is very geeky Mugabe
Raptor an NBA basketball team in Toronto CA or a next generation hard drive.

Raid
Short for Redundant Array of Independent (or Inexpensive) Disks, a category of disk drives that employ two or more drives in combination for fault tolerance and performance. RAID disk drives are used frequently on servers but aren't generally necessary for personal computers. RAID allows you to store the same data redundantly (in multiple paces) in a balanced ay to improve overall performance.
This is what a Raid looks like but it won't kill bugs. :-)

Comrade Bee
Just as a little aside, the NHS "death panel" commissars would have had you scanned as soon as possible after your slip. In that way you have stopped going the way of Natasha Richardson. If that is the world's finest medical care, you know where Guiliani and Palin can shove it

mugabe, I've pulled the plug on Hedged Growth. Down 10%+currency loss, but with their strategy they will go nowhere in this market. What's the point of "hedging" "growth" when there isn't any to begin with? They should have been amending their strategy and allocations CONSTANTLY all along, but didn't.
I much prefer to keep my assets close at hand where I myself can decide what level of risk (more, right now)to take and what assets to purchase or sell.
This experience just reinforces my belief that there is no substitute for taking personal control of one's life...we all should know at least SOMETHING about bicycle repair, food-growing, electric fan repair, cooking, languages AND investing.
Thanks Bhagwhan as I am sure I should have been scanned or taken to the hospital asap. Hell I didn't even know or to this day remember what happpened. Well at least I wised up and got them done yesterday and should have the results soon. I took off early today again to rest. I still feel a little punch drunk.
